The Student Actuarial Society was formed in 2007. Professor John Marshall had the idea and rounded up some students under the stairs in 314, as back then one of the only other club around 314 was SCUM (Students Curtin University Maths) Club which no industry professionals wanted to be associated.
The society was able to raise considerable amounts of funding in its first year due to receiving several company sponsors. In it’s first year the society ran (mostly) social gatherings, but also printed a careers handbook specifically for Actuarial students.
Ever since then the Society has focussed on helping students through running a variety of academic, networking and social events.
